Mar 2, 2011 Meetup
March 3, 2011 in Meetups by Amanda Giles
We had another great meetup last night. Last minute emergencies and the sudden freak snow storm kept some away, but the 5 who made it were excited to be there. As a new group, we continued to have lots of discussion around what the group could focus on (the list seems endless!). The group talked at length about different CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal Joomla, and Expression Engine) and how to pick the best one. The discussion also included talk of wanting a CMS designed for professional programmers (as many of us are) as well as debating the question “How complicated does a CMS need to be?”
I’m encouraging the group to use this website as a local hub for WordPress developers. I’ve included links to the websites of developers who have attended the meetups and I would also like to post articles, how-to, troubleshooting tips, etc. I welcome any and all content from local WordPress developers! Bring it on! Let’s support and learn from one another. BuddyPress is installed now on the site and some groups are set up for forum discussions. Please register and become a member of the site if you are, or are interested in becoming, a WordPress developer and you live in the seacoast NH area. I’m excited and hopeful to post content provided as well as links to folks professional or portfolio sites. My goal would be a WordPress site that functions as a valuable resource for developers as well as a networking opportunity between each other and with the community who might need our services.
I had prepared a presentation on how to write a plugin which I could repeat at the end of our next meetup if there’s interest. Although the presentation obviously included more information than the Powerpoint slides contain (plus we reviewed the code of a couple short plugins), I will embed theme here. You can also download this presentation directly from SlideShare.net.
As before, Ted Roche also wrote up some excellent minutes posted here.
Our next meetup will be held Wed April 6, 2011 at the NH-ICC. We’ll have open social and networking time from 6:30-7:00PM with the regular meeting starting at 7pm. Hope to see you there.
